The Coconut Couple
On a winding road on the Island of Koh Phangan, I encountered an old Jeep parked beneath towering coconut trees. Its owners, a kind-hearted Thai couple who found my broken Thai especially amusing, welcomed me (I think) with warm smiles. After explaining I love their Jeep and offering to take pictures of me in it, I somehow explained I wanted it of them, which they were a bit shocked by but they loved it when they saw the results.
In a generous gesture, they offered me a coconut from their orchard. Unfortunately, I did not have my machete to hand, so the coconut lived in my moped seat for three days until a nice farmer on the side of the road agreed to split it open for me (This may or may not have involved me buying a kilo of mangos from him as my way of saying thank you).
